ABOUT THE ARTIST
Carolyn Applegate’s art pieces are created from nylon stockings, polyfil and fabric. The medium's inherit sensuality and versatility lends itself to many variations and interpretations.
These brightly colored sculptural pieces include works that are suspended from the ceiling, pieces that hang from the wall, and chairs. The pieces are both fanciful and whimsical. Viewers reactions to the pieces generally include a smile and an irresistible desire to touch the piece.
The "balls" that dominate many of the pieces invoke breasts, cells, embryos or flowers. They address the issues of creation in a whimsical and flamboyant manner. All speak of creating. Even the more sensual pieces speak of continuation of life force.
